Challenge Statement – The rural communities of Hanalei, Princeville, Wainiha and Ha`ena face a declining student enrollment which impacts Hanalei School’s ability to secure funding from Department of Education (DOE). In large part, DOE funding for teachers and programs is allocated on a per-student basis, which has resulted in fewer teachers, larger classroom sizes, and limited resources for specialized programs and student needs.

Our Commitment - · HSF exists to raise community awareness of these fiscal challenges and to enlist community, government, business, and institutional support for the betterment of the students, teachers, administrative staff, and PTA. HSF endeavors to support Hanalei School to focus helping to meet the educational and extra-curricular needs of both students and teachers.

Community Outreach, Education & Engagement – HSF recognizes that members of the Hanalei School Community may include, but are not limited to, its students, teachers, administrative staff, parents, former students/alumni, DOE administrators, County of Kauai officials, State Representatives, local merchants, part-time residents, future students, and visitors to the island.   In other words, the community is all encompassing.  Recognizing this, HSF seeks to reach and engage as many supporters as possible.
